South Asia Initiative Research and Study Grants are available to Harvard graduate students across all disciplines and schools of the University whose masters or doctoral theses are focused on and involve research or field work in South Asia.
Eligibility: Grants are available only to students continuing at Harvard the following academic year.
In addition, graduate students are welcome to participate in SAI’s Summer Internship Program, and embark on an internship with a SAI partnered organization. Find more information here.
Process: SAI welcomes graduate grant applications through Harvard’s GSAS Standard Application. SAI also encourages applicants to seek additional funding from other sources.
Grantees may use their award any time during the academic year following receipt of the SAI grant.
Application Deadline for Graduate Student Associate Program: February 10, 2012
If you are a graduate student applying for internship funding or a research grant, the deadline is February 17, 2012.
Applications will be collected in CGIS South, Room S427
Application Components Include:
- The GSAS Standard Application
- A Statement of Purpose
- A current resume/CV
- An official transcript
- Two letters of recommendation

Omidyar Innovative Solutions Grant
SAI is pleased to announce the 'Innovative Solutions' Grant, funded by the Omidyar Network Fund, Inc., for groups of three or more Harvard students to pursue project(s) developed in collaboration with but not limited to the Fall 2011 survey course Contemporary South Asia: A Survey of Intractable Problems and Innovative Solutions. This grant is available to undergraduates and graduates.
